Live role-play as framework for learning
A brief summary of the content on this site
On this website you can find texts, photos, an animation film in an English version as well as videos explaining what narrative educational role-play is and how it can create motivation, support inclusive processes as well as facilitating meaningful environments for curriculum learning.
You can also find helpful explanations on how to create your own narrative educational role-play, a series of video-examples and comprehensive teaching material you can use in your own teaching.
The information found on this website builds on a 4 year research project, that has investigated narrative educational role-play in different educational settings.
The research project was divided into three phases aiming at creating research-based knowledge on the use of narrative educational role-play in the unique residential school for learners grade 8 to 10 in Denmark, Østerskov Efterskole, that has integrated the entire curriculum in narrative live-action role-play scenarios (phase 1). Subsequently this knowledge was used for the implementation of narrative educational role-play in the public school, Helsingør Skole, afdeling Gurrevej, over a six week period (phase 2). Building on the knowledge and experience from the two previous phases narrative educational role-play was implemented in a public school by future teachers from VIA UC as part of an internship during their education (phase 3).
On the basis of the knowledge created during these phases, the project concludes that narrative educational role-play offers a framework conducive to open and problem-based learning, while providing for a meaningful learning environment based on an overarching narrative that provides the context for activities and simulations. This type of framework anchors learning within an environment allowing for open and generative tasks and immersion.
More specifically the research project focused on how narrative educational role-play with its narrative framework, collaborative processes, elements of dynamic feedback can support inclusive processes for challenged learners, motivate the learners and encourage curricular learning.
Please take a tour around the website (in Danish) to learn more about narrative educational role-play and immerse yourself in a world of fascinating stories, engaging learning processes and inclusive learning environments.
Enjoy!
